Garten isn’t just a Food Network star who hosts a cooking show. When she’s not filming episodes of Barefoot Countess inside the “barn” of her property in East Hampton, New York, she focuses on cookbooks.
Garten’s latest Barefoot Contessa cookbook is Modern comfort food. Released in October 2020, Garten had no idea when she began writing that he would be hitting shelves during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Garten has a long process for developing cookbook recipes, so picking a favorite is admittedly difficult for him. Barefoot Countess host. Invited by Glamor to share his favorite recipe from Modern comfort food in November 2020, Garten admitted it was a tough choice, but if she had to choose it, it would be a beef stew.
“It’s a tough decision, but probably the Ultimate Beef Stew. Everyone is familiar with beef stew, but it’s generally boring and the meat can be a bit dry, ”Garten said. “For this recipe, I borrowed short ribs from a recipe I had made in the past and replaced the meat. “It’s funny, it was like the easiest book I have ever written,” she said. “I sat down and thought about all those flavors we remember from childhood. “And I did it with every thing, you know, every one of them,” she explained. “I just took on a flavor that I remember that was familiar to me. And I just thought, how can I improve it? How can I make it easier to do? “
